Imagine Lincoln Student Pens Winning Essay
Imagine Schools recently announced the award winners in its Sixth Annual Imagine Schools National Character Essay Contest. Students from 50 Imagine schools around the country participated, demonstrating their understanding of a quotation or maxim on virtue of their choosing and expressing in writing how that maxim applied to their lives and the world around them. A panel of ten judges read and scored the essays and awarded prizes per grade level — including one to Fourth Grader Lejuan Johnson, who took home an Honorable Mention prize. Congrats, Lejuan!
Welcome Dr. Thompson!
The staff and community of Imagine Lincoln welcome Dr. Peter Thompson as Acting Principal, effective April 10. Dr. Thompson, a resident of Prince George’s County, comes to us with more than 20 years of experience in education, spanning both the Kindergarten – Grade 12 and collegiate levels. “You will find Dr. Thompson to be professional, responsive, knowledgeable and committed to creating a world-class learning environment at Imagine Lincoln,” commented William Hill, Executive Director, Prince George’s County Imagine Schools. “He has [our] full support.” Dr. Thompson replaces Kimberly Strayhorn, who has served as principal since 2010.
Harris Is Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Janelle Harris, a Kindergarten/Math teacher, who has been selected as the 2012 Imagine Lincoln Teacher of the Year. The annual Teacher of the Year award, which recognizes individuals for their outstanding work and dedication to their school community, is one of the highest honors an Imagine school can bestow on a staff member. Harris is eligible to be considered for the Maryland Region Teacher of the Year award. The regional winner will then be nominated to enter the Imagine Schools Teacher of Year award.
Showcasing Our Talents
Winter concerts, held on December 14-15, showcased our students’ many talents. The Drama Club, under the direction of Fifth Grade teacher Janna Parker, created a holiday play entitled “Where’s Rudolph?” The cast consisted of students in Grades 5-8. Choral presentations featured students from various grades under the direction of Latasha Perry. Musically inclined students in the beginner and advanced bands and orchestra were able to demonstrate their instrumental skills by performing various holiday musical selections, thanks to Rachel Israel, Instrumental Music Instructor.
