Welcome From the Principal

Dear Parent, Grandparents, Relatives, and Caretakers of Imagine Lincoln,

I am excited to be serving as Acting Principal and to becoming part of the Imagine Lincoln Public Charter School Community. I look forward to meeting and interacting with you all.

As a veteran educator who has served at all educational levels, from Pre-Kindergarten to higher education, I have a proven track record of success with students, parents, staff, and administrators. Over the past 16 years, I have held a variety of positions, most recently serving as the Recruitment Specialist for the Prince George’s County Public Schools. I have also served as the Program Director/Manager of the Alternative High School Program for Expelled Students, as the first Assistant Principal of the Cora L. Rice/G. James Gholson Educational Complex, and as the Principal of John Carroll Elementary School.

I believe that my experiences as both a teacher and an administrator will serve me well as I begin to help lead our school in the direction that we all expect and demand. First, we, as the collective community, must look to improve upon our Six Measures of Excellence Grades by raising each at least a 1/2 letter grade; thus, a C+ becomes a solid B, a B- becomes a B+, our B becomes an A, and so on, until our overall grade becomes a B+ or higher. There is no reason why we should not expect this of ourselves, if we expect the same of our students.

Based on my observations of the school and meetings with the staff and community, I have concluded that making a few adjustments to our best practices will lead to more fluid transitions within the school, and therefore create a more educationally stimulating environment. The changes (which are outlined in more detail here) include making adjustments to arrival and dismissal procedures, clarifications to parent classroom visits and volunteering standards, and stricter adherence to the school’s uniform policy.

Change will not be easy, and it will not come overnight, but change will come. With your help, guidance, influence, input, and most important, our adherence to the Values of Integrity, Justice and Fun, we can make this happen, and we will make this work.

Although these modifications are relatively minor, they will help us make great strides in building upon a school culture of nurturing, character building, shared values, and mutual respect for all involved.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (301) 808-5600 or  pthompso@pgcps.org.

Respectfully,

Peter A. Thompson, Ed.D
Acting Principal
